Course Overview

Course Content & Assessment

The qualification is divided into specific pathways, offering the opportunity to undertake specialised learning that can be accurately matched to specific career sectors

in the music industry. Across the course of the 2 years you will complete 6 modules including core units on 

  • Rehearsal skills and live performance
  • Planning for a career in music

With additional modules from the following potential pathways: 

  • Music performance to camera
  • Lead Performer
  • Session Musician
  • Music improvisation
  • Auditioning for music

All assessment is based around practical and/or technical skills and knowledge applicable to roles in the music industry.

Pathways and units are not genre or instrument-specific, allowing learners to focus on repertoire and artists they are interested in.

The specifications are designed for creation of a well-rounded course, encompassing a range of subject areas within the industry.

What Next?

Learners can progress to higher education courses such as popular music, music technology and music business degrees, or directly to employment.

Minimum Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English and Maths at grade 4 and a Music or Music-based subject at grade 5.
